Summary: Once again, we have rogue eastern cuisine ruining everybody's day. The good news is that it's nowhere near as violent nor overwhelmingly chaotic as last time. The bad news is that there's kaiju involved.
History: A well-mannered son of a sushi chef had crafted Setap Z, a growth serum designed to end world hunger. However, his serum was stolen by his rival, a mad scientist bent on world domination via enlarged sea animals. So, he steals a squid, and octopus, and a crab from the boy, utilizing Setap Z to grow them into monsters. It works rather well, but they aren't in his control. Now, the Seafood Monster Attack Team has been formed, and while the two guys get in a rather petty contest to kill the beasts first for a woman's affections, some tasty brawling is afoot.
Notable Kills: Nothing special.
Final Fate: After all three monsters are led to a bowl-like stadium, a Street Fighter enthusiast unleashes his ace in the hole, a huge robotic sushi chef named Robo-Cook. In little time, the machine chops the kaiju up into fish meal, and the day is saved! However, SMAT might be needed again, because the scientist is still out there, and he's now acquired a fugu fish, a lobster, and a sea urchin...
Powers/Abilities: Kanira's hard shell protects him from most attacks and substances. He can also breathe fireballs.
Weakness: Rice vinegar sauce hurts Ikara and Takora. Heavy artillery works for all three.
Scariness Factor: 2.5-All they have going for them is their size. Other than that, they look like bloated cartoon characters you'd expect in a comedic anime. Not helping is how when they're (easily) disposed of, they're delicious! They started out as seafood, and suffice to say, that's all they amounted to.
Trivia: -This film was directed by Minoru Kawasaki, who had previously dabbled in seafood-related hijinks with his 2004 comedy "The Calamari Wrestler", a film literally about anthropomorphic squid wrestlers.
-This film is possibly a homage to 1970's "Space Amoeba", with Ikara and Kamira being clear nods to Gezora and Ganimes. The special DVD cover designed by the legendary Matt Frank is even based directly off the US poster for the old film!
